Threshold (2025)

THRESHOLD is a three-hour durational performance for two dancers, created with sound by Lawrence Harvey and visual design by Rhian Hinkley.

Artist statement: “Recently, I’ve been creating “long form” choreographies. These durational works focus on positioning the viewer in close proximity with performance and creating a contained environment for attention that slows the pace and moves against the rapid change we feel all around us. This body of work started with ‘Yield to Resistance’ (2022), a 4 hour durational event for 3 dancers, presented at Dancehouse, that emerged out of the desire to return to the studio post-Pandemic and reclaim live performance. The idea of extended durations, of what happens when limits are exceeded, and a curiosity about unbroken encounters with dance saw three more works evolve: ‘Temporary Hold’ (2023), ‘Safehold’ (2024) and now ‘Threshold’ (2025). I was fortunate to have two residencies that enabled the creation of this body of work: ‘The Australian Ballet inaugural residency’ (2022), and the City of Melbourne Boyd Studio residency (2023) where I was able to develop these projects. I want to thank the organisations and individuals who have supported the creation and presentation of this body of work over the last four years.”
