LOOMING(2021) VIDEO INSTALLATION
Looming is a two channel video installation created at the invitation of Melissa Keys, Curator, Buxton Contemporary, Melbourne, for the exhibition ‘This is a Poem’.
The work responds to Pat Brassington’s work ‘Neck’, from the Buxton Contemporary collection, in response to the exhibition’s invitation to create a “poem” in response to a work in the collection.
Artist statement:
‘Neck’ reminds us of the presence of things that lurk in the shadows, out of our line of sight. Presences that are felt but unseen. Always there. As Brassington’s figure leans forward and away, so does the dancer. With gestures that enfold our imaginings, contemplations and fears, the dancer confronts the presence of the cameras that occupy the space around her - every-present and looming out of sight.
