Sandra Parker was born in the small coastal town of Rosebud, in Victoria, Australia. Since graduating from Rusden College majoring in dance and drama, Sandra has persued a career as a Choreograher, Performer, Teacher and Director. Working in the capacity as a freelance artist, as the Artistic Director of the iconic Australian company Dance Works, and now as the Director/Choreographer of Sandra Parker Dance, her work has been supported by numerous grants from the Australia Council for the Arts, Arts Victoria and the City of Melbourne.
Sandra Parker's work has been presented in Australia at the Sydney Opera House, Brisbane Powerhouse, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts, Salamanca Arts Centre (Hobart) and at the Melbourne International Festival for the Arts 2000, 2002, 2003. International projects include an Asialink residency to Tokyo, Japan with choreographer Kei Takei, and the creation of ‘Span’ for Danspace, St Mark’s Church, New York.
Sandra Parker's most recent project, The View From Here was created during a residency at the prestigious Sophiensaele in Berlin, and premiered at the St Kilda Memorial Hall, Melbourne, Australia in 2005. The work was nominated for five Green Room awards, Melbourne, Australia. In January 2007 The View From Here will be presented at the Joyce Soho in New York City. Sandra Parker has received a Centenary Medal for Services to Australian Dance and an artist residency at Bundanon in NSW.
